iOS Shortcuts can start and stop this app automatically when your vehicle's Bluetooth connects or disconnects. Copy the URLs below, then follow the setup guide.
Set up a Bluetooth auto-start in 4 steps:
- Open the Shortcuts app on your iPhone
- Tap + to create a new shortcut
- Tap Add Action → search Show Notification
- Set message: "Car connected — unlock iPhone to begin trip"
- Tap + again → search Open URLs
- Paste the Start Trip URL copied above
- Name it "Start Logbook" and save
Why the notification step? If your iPhone is locked when Bluetooth connects, the app opens in the background and cannot start GPS. The notification wakes the screen so you can unlock and tap — the app then shows a "Trip was waiting" banner and starts immediately.
- Create another shortcut with the Stop Trip URL
- No notification step needed for stop
- Name it "Stop Logbook"
- In Shortcuts, tap the Automation tab
- Tap + → Bluetooth
- Choose your vehicle: your car
- Select Connects
- Add actions in order:
- Search Set Auto-Lock → set to Never
- Search Show Notification → "Logbook: unlock to start trip"
- Search Open URLs → paste Start Trip URL
- Turn off "Ask Before Running"
Set Auto-Lock → Never is the most reliable screen lock fix. iOS Shortcuts can directly change this setting when your car Bluetooth connects, and restore it when you disconnect. No code required — iOS controls it natively.
- Create another automation for the same Bluetooth device
- Select Disconnects
- Add actions:
- Search Set Auto-Lock → set to 2 Minutes (or your preference)
- Search Open URLs → paste Stop Trip URL
- Turn off "Ask Before Running"
Note: iOS Shortcuts open Safari when the automation runs. If the app is added to your Home Screen as a PWA, tap Open in App if prompted. The trip will start automatically when the page loads.
Your browser supports Web Bluetooth. You can pair your vehicle directly — the app will detect the connection without needing Shortcuts.
Downloads all trips, odometer logs, and settings as a JSON file.
Permanently removes all logged trips. Odometer and settings are kept.
